Named after Franklin Pierce, 14th president of the United States, birthday November 23, 1804.

Pierce opened at Filmore St NE between Spring and Summer. (First Pierce was formerly a church)

The permanent building opened in 1900 at Broadway and Filmore Sts. NE. I closed in 1966 and was destroyed by fire in 1969. The site was sold January 28, 1969.
